With AI into the global health future - GWA Hygiene buys Hypros

Am 18. April 2024 von Tobias Gebhardt

After the takeover of Hypros, it’s now at GWA Hygiene from Stralsund 1+1=3.

Last week it became clear where the journey is heading for the Stralsund-based StartUp with founding scene veteran and founder Tobias Gebhardt after the acquisition: towards a holistic solution for the patient room of the future. The company is complementing itself with the takeover of resources to be able to develop and offer the leading IoT and KI platform.

Before we discuss the details of the takeover by the founding shipyard member, a brief look back at the business area of GWA Hygiene.

AI and digitization solve the challenges of the present and revolutionize the inpatient care of tomorrow.

Infections due to inadequate hygiene and germs are one of the biggest problems in hospitals. According to RKI, between 10,000 and 15,000 patients die annually as a result of new infections with hospital germs – often adding to already severe underlying illnesses. Approximately 500,000 infections occur in total.

The resulting human suffering can hardly be put into words and we refrain from researching monetary costs in this context.

Small note in advance: The sensor is located under the bottle.

Why digital solutions are the answer to analog problems in hospitals

The safe, hygienic handling of patients is above all a control and management task. If you know the movement patterns of all people in the vicinity of a patient and control the corresponding hygiene conditions, additional infections can be effectively combated. You simply prevent them.

An approach that is hardly feasible in conventional professional everyday life. Because what staff can continuously monitor and control individual patients, who had access when?

Small sensors are just the beginning, a comprehensive solution is the future.

The solution is simple at first approach: one equips the critical areas of a patient room with sensors. For example, one could measure how many people have entered a patient room and how many have disinfected their hands when entering at the dispenser.

Digitally, the two sensors can be equipped with intelligent control systems, such as a simple touchscreen that prompts people to disinfect their hands.

The previous playing field of GWA Hygiene with its 30 employees, which is already represented in numerous clinics in 17 countries with its self-created product universe. In this context, the startup works with major manufacturers, such as Dräger, and implements patented IoT solutions.

Call to disinfect hands.

Against this background, it is already possible to glimpse what actual revolution is possible when the sensor technology is expanded, networked and finally equipped with an KI.

Monitoring application with fully automated insights

With the acquisition of Hypros, GWA Hygiene equips itself with the necessary resources in the areas of IoT and AI solutions

The acquisition is the result of a long-standing success story and joint innovation projects. The companies met on projects such as blood culture tracking and indoor navigation at the University Medicine Greifswald. This proven collaboration has revealed technical, professional and interpersonal synergies that are now being intensified.

Logical result of a successful, long-term collaboration: The two managing directors, Tobias Gebhardt (GWA Hygiene) and Max Golubew (Hypros) will work even more closely together in the future

Through the acquisition, not only the newly formed team is strengthened, but also the partner network is expanded. In addition to the existing collaborations of GWA Hygiene with B. Braun, HARTMANN and Google, partnerships with system houses such as AirITSystems from Hypros are now also added.

About the business area of Hypros GmbH & Co. KG

The founding of Hypros GmbH & Co. KG dates back to 2016. The company employs more than 10 employees and has established itself as a leading expert in the field of asset tracking and individually adapted software-IoT systems in healthcare since its founding.

In an environment where the availability and condition of medical equipment are crucial for the smooth operation of the clinic, Hypros offers solutions that ensure the right equipment is in the right place at the right time. Through their innovative real-time location technologies (RTLS), they contribute to improving efficiency and safety in healthcare.

The goal is to provide holistic, leading IoT and KI solutions that, with sensor technology, networking and KI control, can not only take over tasks in hospitals, but also create a digital patient room that leads to a significant improvement in patient health through information effects.

Ed. note: We see good chances that the collection of so much data could lead to new treatment options and combinations in the long term. It’s going to be exciting.

Gründungsmitteilung

In this transaction, 1 + 1 = 3. We bring strong hardware expertise, while Hypros brings its pronounced software expertise into play, which they have proven in large projects in university clinics. This is the perfect matching to establish THE IoT platform in healthcare.

Small insight: The negotiations and due diligence lasted for over a year – a time of intense collaboration and planning for a shared future.

Question 1: What is going particularly well from your point of view in the start-up scene in MV?

The positive mood of the local start-up scene is increasingly noticeable beyond the borders of the federal state. The joint efforts of many actors contribute to an environment in which it will be easier for our founders to enter into larger cooperations and open up global markets in the future.

Question 2: What do you wish for the future?

Further networking of the StartUp ecosystem and increased efforts by all to attract more venture capital to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Question 3: How did you find the founding shipyard?

Already in the founding phase of the association, there was a strong exchange within the framework of my commitment to the Entrepreneursclub Rostock.
