HYTRA - Hydrogen globalization
Hytra revolutionizes the transportation of hydrogen through innovative tankers and infrastructure.
The unique selling point of HYTRA lies in the development of innovative solutions for the large-volume transport of liquid hydrogen (LH₂) by sea. The company has developed a novel tank ship design with a capacity of 60,000 cubic meters, which is roughly 60 times that of the currently largest LH₂ tankers.
These ships are characterized by high efficiency and cost-effective transport capability and are intended to transport hydrogen for around 2.00 US dollars per kilogram, which is significantly below current market prices.
The innovation was successfully patented by the Rostock startup.

HYTRA is an innovative company in the field of hydrogen logistics and offers two central solutions for global hydrogen transport.
Innovative Tanker
At the center is the specially developed HYTRA LH₂ tanker ship – a revolutionary transportation system for liquid hydrogen. The tanker ship enables large-volume and cost-efficient hydrogen transport by sea. This surpasses the currently available capacities on the market by several times and reduces transport costs – a crucial step for the international competitiveness of green hydrogen.
Terminal Infrastructure
This offer is complemented by a powerful HYTRA terminal infrastructure, which specializes in the safe loading and unloading of LH₂. The specially developed port solutions integrate seamlessly into existing logistics systems and guarantee the highest safety standards in handling deeply cooled liquid hydrogen.
Together, these two products enable a continuous, economic, and scalable transport chain – from production to intercontinental sea transport to industrial use in Europe and North America. HYTRA positions itself as a key player for the future of the hydrogen economy and the global energy transition.

The startup's goal is to promote the use of hydrogen as a clean energy source worldwide and make a contribution to climate protection.
With Hytra, companies and governments around the world can rely on a reliable and sustainable hydrogen supply.
HYTRA combines safety, quality, and sustainability with a global vision. The specially developed LH₂ tankers rely on state-of-the-art technology and the highest safety standards for reliable hydrogen transport.
HYTRA stands for responsible quality: Through close partnerships, it is ensured that hydrogen is produced in an environmentally friendly manner and delivered efficiently - with significantly reduced costs. With the principle "Regional strength, global energy", HYTRA promotes local economic cycles and creates jobs, while at the same time advancing the global use of green hydrogen.
Milestones
Patent for innovative LH₂ tanker ship
In September 2024, HYTRA was granted a patent by the German Patent Office for a newly developed tanker ship for transporting liquid hydrogen (LH₂). This innovative ship design enables the safe and efficient transport of large quantities of LH₂ over the sea. A specially developed hydrogen tank, which is also pending patent approval, complements the ship concept. HYTRA is thus ahead of schedule and sets new standards in maritime hydrogen logistics.
Strategic partnership with TIN: €10 million investment
On May 11, 2025, HYTRA concluded a strategic cooperation and investment agreement with THE INTELLIGENT NETWORK TIN LTD from Doha, Qatar. TIN is investing €10 million in HYTRA to drive the development of large-scale LH₂ tankers, tanks, and port infrastructures. The first tankers are expected to have a transport capacity of at least 60,000 cubic meters (4,500 tons) of liquid hydrogen and enable exports from the Gulf region to Europe and Asia.
This partnership aims to position Qatar and its neighbors as leading players in the emerging hydrogen economy.
These success stories underscore HYTRA's commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainability in global hydrogen transport. With patented technologies and strong partnerships, HYTRA is paving the way for a climate-friendly energy future.

The interdisciplinary founding team of HYTRA has expertise in the areas of shipbuilding, ship design, finance and project management.
